Synopsis
Where Does the Motherland Begin? (2014) is a Soviet-era spy drama you can watch online on iFILM. The late 1980s: the Soviet system is fracturing at every seam. The CIA puts a price on Soviet intelligence officers embedded in the West — a million dollars and guaranteed asylum for whoever names them.
The KGB's answer is Operation Phantom. They will plant a fake defector: one of their own, with a spotless record and no visible reason to turn. The candidate is selected. The operation begins. Nobody in the room is thinking about what happens decades later.
