Synopsis
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (2002) is a Russian TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's most audacious detective novel — watch online on iFILM. Director Sergei Ursuliak cast Konstantin Raikin as Hercule Poirot alongside Sergei Makovetsiky and Vyacheslav Zholobov in a sharp ensemble production.
Roger Ackroyd, a wealthy landowner in a quiet English village, is found shot dead in his locked study. No clear motive, no witnesses. Everyone under his roof is a suspect, every alibi neatly arranged. Poirot is in town by accident, supposedly resting — and ends up running the whole investigation anyway.
Christie wrote this story in 1926 as a deliberate provocation at her own genre, and the ending still draws arguments a century later. Raikin plays Poirot not as an eccentric foreign genius but as a quietly funny, almost reluctant detective — which, oddly, makes the character land harder.
