Synopsis
State of Happiness (Lykkeland, 2018) is a Norwegian drama series you can watch online on iFILM. On Christmas Eve 1969, a gas flare lit up on the Ocean Viking rig: Phillips Petroleum had just punched through to the Ekofisk field — the largest offshore oil reservoir ever found at that point, sitting under the seabed off the Stavanger coast.
The city barely knew what was coming. Stavanger was a fishing town — herring and cod, not oil rigs. Directors Pål Jackman, Petter Næss, and Mikkel Brænne Sandemose focus on the people caught in the middle: Amund Harboe, Malene Wadel, and Pia Tjelta play young locals watching their world rewire itself around American engineers, sudden money, and choices that didn't exist a year before.
