Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai (2023) is an animated adventure series you can watch online on iFILM — a prequel set in 1920s Shanghai, long before the chaos of the original films.

Ten-year-old Sam Wing (voiced by Izaac Wang) finds young Gizmo in his family's shop in the Chinese quarter and sets out to return him to his mountain home. Street thief Elle, voiced by Ming-Na Wen, joins the trip; B.D. Wong, Simu Liu, and Zach Galligan — who played Billy in the 1984 original — round out the voice cast. Their path across China runs through creatures from actual Chinese folklore: dragons, spirits, shape-shifters. A power-hungry industrialist and his growing gremlin army track them every step.
