Synopsis
The Living Dragon (2026) is a Japanese martial arts anthology you can watch online now, built as a tribute rather than a straight action picture.
Yasuaki Kurata turns 80 this year, sixty years after he first stepped in front of a camera, and three directors who once trained under him — Koichi Sakamoto, Kenji Tanigaki and Yuji Shimomura — made the film as a gift back. All three cut their teeth in Hong Kong's kung fu boom alongside names like Jackie Chan and Jet Li before building their own careers behind the camera. The anthology's three segments drift between straight drama, memory and outright fantasy, following performers who never stopped chasing the work. Kurata shares the screen with Sammo Hung, Masaya Kato, Rina Takeda and stunt veteran Seiji Takaiwa.
This isn't fight choreography for its own sake — it's what happens when students get to direct their teacher one more time. iFILM carries The Living Dragon for anyone who grew up on that golden run of Hong Kong action and wants to see its survivors on screen again.
