Director Evgenia Leushkina doesn't turn her subjects into case studies. Some of them barely speak, others use a handful of fixed phrases, yet the show still needs their voices heard. So actors Yuri Kolokolnikov, Nikita Kologrivyy, Svetlana Ivanova and Alexandra Bortich step in to voice the teens' inner monologues, and documentary footage is cut together with animated sequences.

It's blunt where you'd expect sentimentality, and there's real dry humor in how these kids talk about themselves.
