Synopsis
National Theatre Live: Frankenstein (2011) is Danny Boyle's celebrated stage production — watch it online on iFILM. Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his Creature every night; the NT Live recordings capture both versions.
The Creature enters the world fully grown but completely new. His maker recoils in horror and abandons him. What follows is a solitary education in language, longing, and rejection — one gentle encounter with a blind old man teaches him to read and reason, while every other human being answers him with cruelty. Naomi Harris plays Elizabeth, and her scenes are among the sharpest in the production.
Boyle frames Mary Shelley's 19th-century gothic as an argument about creation and responsibility that hasn't aged a day. The two filmed performances played on 17 February and 5 March 2011; each cast configuration changes the moral weight of the whole story. Stream Frankenstein (2011) on iFILM.
