The season runs on several tracks at once. Lawndale High sells its soul to a soda company when the budget runs dry — the teachers strike back. Quinn's fashion clique faces an internal crisis that her usual tactics cannot fix. For the first time Daria enters a scholarship competition, which means thinking seriously about somewhere that isn't here. She and Tom are still together, and the relationship starts needing answers neither of them has worked out yet. The finale builds itself around a large cardboard box Daria cannot stop staring at. It turns into an episode about childhood, about the habit of being alone, and about what it means to have become someone you can recognize. Quiet, precise, and nothing like a conventional series ending.
