Scarlet

Scarlet (2025) is a Japanese animated action fantasy from Studio Chizu — watch it online on iFILM. Director Mamoru Hosoda, known for Wolf Children, Mirai, and Belle, returns with his most ambitious work yet. Original title: 果てしなきスカーレット. Mana Ashida voices the lead, with Masaki Okada as Hijiri.

Princess Scarlet fails to avenge her father's murder — and wakes up in the Land of the Dead. The rules there are unfamiliar and the place runs on madness. Her only path out: reach a destination called the No End Place and settle the score she came to settle. Fail, and she dissolves into nothing — the Void swallows her whole. The world Hosoda builds borrows its architecture from Shakespeare; Claudius, Gertrude, Polonius, Laertes, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern all appear, but in shapes that feel nothing like a stage adaptation.
