Synopsis
The Boss of It All (Direktøren for det hele, 2006) is a Lars von Trier comedy you can watch online on iFILM, co-produced across Denmark, Germany, France and Sweden. An IT firm owner has spent years hiding behind an invented company president — every layoff, every pay cut, every bad call went out under the fictional boss's name. Now he wants to sell the business, and the buyer insists on sitting down with that boss in person.
A washed-up actor gets the job. He walks in expecting a simple performance, but the employees have outstanding grievances, the company's history is a mess of convenient lies, and his own sense of right and wrong keeps getting in the way. What starts as farce quietly turns into something sharper about accountability and self-deception in the workplace.
Von Trier shot the film using a custom algorithm to randomize the camera angle after each cut — a formal experiment that gives it an offhand, almost theatrical feel. It is his lightest film by far, which makes the sting at the end land harder. Von Trier himself appears in a small role. Stream The Boss of It All (2006) online on iFILM.
