Synopsis
My Bodyguard (1980) is a sharp coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Tony Bill, it follows Clifford Peache, the new kid at a Chicago high school where a smirking bully shakes down classmates for their lunch money.
Clifford won't pay. So he tries something smarter: he hires Ricky Linderman as protection — a hulking, silent loner the whole school is terrified of, thanks to rumors no one bothers to check. What starts as a cold business deal slowly turns into something neither boy expected. Linderman, it turns out, is carrying a private grief of his own. Chris Makepeace and a young Adam Baldwin anchor the friendship, with Matt Dillon as the swaggering tormentor and Ruth Gordon stealing scenes as Clifford's grandmother.
The film works because it gets the texture of teenage fear right, without a single lecture. No slow-motion triumphs, no easy lessons — just two kids figuring out that courage is mostly knowing when you're not alone. A small, durable favorite that has aged better than most of its era.
