A seaside resort sits nearly empty in the off-season. A plainclothes cop fixated on BMWs, tape recorders and Russian women teams up with a withdrawn photo-store clerk and a hotel chambermaid. Over and over they re-stage real assaults, obsessing over the smallest gesture, with the maid acting out the victims. What the trio is actually after stays deliberately murky.

The Lanthimos signature is already in place: blank-faced characters, a restless handheld camera, silences that refuse to comfort you.
