Synopsis

Mumford (1999) is Lawrence Kasdan's comedy-drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A new psychologist named Mumford (Loren Dean) turns up in the sleepy town that happens to share his name, and within weeks half the locals are lining up for his couch — he listens well and says exactly what he thinks.

The clients pile in: a burned-out housewife, a teenager hooked on catalog shopping, the town pharmacist, a young internet billionaire obsessed with building a flying machine. Mumford untangles everyone else's buried secrets with disarming ease. The catch is that he is carrying a secret of his own the size of an entire fake résumé — and, against every rule of his trade, he is falling hard for one of his patients.

Kasdan stacked the bench with talent: Hope Davis, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, Martin Short, Ted Danson, and a very young Zooey Deschanel in one of her earliest parts. It is a warm, oddball picture about small-town life and the idea that honesty might start at home. Stream Mumford (1999) online on iFILM.
