Synopsis
Grand Canyon (1991) is a drama written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan — watch it online on iFILM. Los Angeles, early nineties: a city running on anxiety, inequality and random acts of violence that can reach into any neighbourhood. Six people from opposite ends of town end up entangled in each other's lives through a series of accidents that feel less accidental as the film unfolds.
Kevin Kline plays a corporate attorney whose car stalls in the wrong part of the city at the wrong hour. Danny Glover is the tow truck driver who shows up and keeps a tense standoff from turning fatal. From that one encounter, the film spreads outward — to Steve Martin's producer rattled by a shooting, to Mary McDonnell's woman who finds an abandoned infant on a jog, to Mary-Louise Parker and Alfre Woodard navigating their own precarious corners of the same city.
The film took the Golden Bear at the 1992 Berlin International Film Festival, a recognition that its portrait of urban disconnection and unexpected grace landed with real weight. Kasdan made it as a companion piece to The Big Chill, but Grand Canyon is less nostalgic and considerably sharper. Stream Grand Canyon (1991) online on iFILM.
