Synopsis
Blackbird (2019) is a chamber family drama directed by Roger Michell — watch it online on iFILM. Terminally ill Lily, played by Susan Sarandon, gathers her children, grandchildren, and closest friends for one final weekend at the family's country house. She has made a decision about how she wants to go, and this gathering is the goodbye.
Her two daughters arrive from opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. Jennifer, played by Kate Winslet, runs on control and barely contained grief. Anna, played by Mia Wasikowska, shows up with an unannounced guest and quietly destabilizes everything. Sam Neill is Lily's husband — steady, loving, and unable to hold the sisters back from the collision that's coming.
The film is a remake of the Danish Stille hjerte from 2014. Michell and screenwriter Christian Torpe keep the structure almost intact, but the English-language cast gives it a particular tightness — especially Winslet, who plays Jennifer with an edge that makes you uncomfortable in exactly the right way.
