Synopsis
Martin (1978) is a George Romero horror film you can watch online on iFILM — made between his zombie pictures and unlike any of them.
A young man named Martin arrives in the depressed Pennsylvania mill town of Braddock to live with his elderly cousin Cuda. Martin believes he is a vampire. Not the cinematic kind — no fangs, no cape, no turning into bats. He sedates his victims with syringes and drinks their blood. Cuda is convinced the boy carries a family curse and plans to deal with it through prayer and a stake. Martin, meanwhile, calls into a local late-night radio show and talks about his life under an alias, almost like therapy. John Amplas plays him without any trace of menace — just a very quiet, very lonely person with a catastrophic compulsion.
Romero wrote and directed this as a study in alienation rather than a monster movie. It's one of those films that sits with you the wrong way. Stream Martin (1978) on iFILM.
