Synopsis

Eighteen-year-old Katey Miller arrives in Havana when her family relocates from Chicago. Her parents expect a respectable college and a suitable suitor, but everything shifts when she meets Javier, a waiter who spends his nights dancing in the city's clubs. Romola Garai plays Katey, Diego Luna plays Javier, and as they secretly train for a contest, she discovers rhythm, sensuality, and a freedom her old life never offered.
This is a loose riff on the 1987 original, relocated to the tropics with mambo, rumba, and a soundtrack that includes the Mýa and Wyclef Jean duet. The plot runs on familiar rails, but the Cuban setting and Luna's easy charm keep it warm and breezy. A good fit when you want music, sun, and romance with no heavy lifting.
