Synopsis
Blackthorn (2011) is a Spanish-language western directed by Mateo Gil — watch online on iFILM, starring Sam Shepard alongside Eduardo Noriega and Stephen Rea, shot entirely on location in the Bolivian altiplano.
The film's premise is a simple counterfact: Butch Cassidy didn't die at San Vicente in 1908. He slipped away, changed his name to James Blackthorn, and has been farming quietly in the Andean highlands ever since. Now old and nearly out of money for a ticket home, he stumbles into one last job with a young Spanish engineer named Eduardo, who claims to know where stolen silver is buried. It's a bad deal from the first handshake — and soon both men are being tracked across the high desert by people with very different reasons to want Blackthorn dead.
Gil isn't interested in mythmaking. This is a film about exhaustion — about a man who outlived his own legend and isn't sure the survival was worth it. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau appears in the flashback timeline as the young Sundance Kid. Stream Blackthorn (2011) online on iFILM.
