The Den

The Den (2013) is an American horror-thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Zachary Donohue and told entirely through screens — webcam feeds, chat windows, video calls and file transfers. No conventional cinematography, just the glowing rectangle that is modern life.

Elizabeth, played by Melanie Papalia, is doing research on anonymous video chat behaviour when one session shows her something that can't be unseen: a person killed on camera in real time. She tries to report it, tries to convince people around her it was real, tries to trace who did it. Each attempt pulls her further into danger rather than out of it. Matt Riedy and Adam Shapiro play people close to her — and being close to her turns out to be its own kind of risk.

Shot at 73 minutes, it doesn't waste a frame. The screen-based format was genuinely unsettling in 2013, before the sub-genre became a fixture. Stream The Den online on iFILM.
