Synopsis
No Name on the Bullet (1959) is a tight psychological Western you can watch online on iFILM. A hired gun named John Gant rides into the quiet town of Lordsburg, and everyone already senses what that means.
Gant makes no threats and is in no hurry. He takes a room and waits — that's all it takes. Convinced the gunman has come to collect on someone, the townsfolk start sifting through their own buried sins, each wondering if he's the target. The local doctor, Luke (Charles Drake), tries to keep his neighbors level-headed, but fear is already loose in the streets. Men turn on one another, reach for their guns, and start trading shots — while Gant simply watches the town do his job for him.
Audie Murphy, the most decorated American soldier of World War II, plays against type as the ice-cold killer rather than the hero, and it may be his finest Western. Director Jack Arnold — better known for Creature from the Black Lagoon — trades shootouts for a slow study of paranoia eating a community alive. Seventy-seven lean minutes, no filler.
