Synopsis
The Indian Tomb (Das indische Grabmal, 1959) is an adventure melodrama by Fritz Lang, free to watch online on iFILM. It is the second half of his Indian Epic — the continuation of The Tiger of Eschnapur, made on his return to Germany.
German architect Harald Berger and the temple dancer Seetha are fleeing the wrath of Maharaja Chandra across desert and mountains. A caravan saves them, but greed and betrayal drive the lovers back into a trap while a palace conspiracy gathers against the ruler. Debra Paget performs the famous snake dance the film is still remembered for.
Lang shot it from a Thea von Harbou novel he had wanted to film since the silent 1920s. Palaces, leper-filled catacombs, a vast tomb under construction — lavish old-school studio adventure, naive and sumptuous at once. For lovers of classic cinema and anyone curious where the adventure genre began. Stream The Indian Tomb (1959) online on iFILM.
