Synopsis
The Enforcer (1951) is a tight film noir starring Humphrey Bogart, ready to watch online on iFILM. An assistant DA has spent years building a case against a murder ring — and the night before trial, his key witness falls apart.
Bogart plays prosecutor Martin Ferguson, who has until dawn to rebuild a collapsing case from old interrogation files. What he uncovers is a business model nobody had charted: a firm that turns killing into routine, where the man who orders a death and the man who carries it out never meet, each transaction buried under its own slang. Crime boss Albert Mendoza (Ted de Corsia) made murder a profession.
The picture was among the first to put the machinery of "Murder, Inc." on screen, spelling out the contract-killer vocabulary — "hit," "contract," "finger man" — that later noirs would borrow. Bretaigne Windust started the shoot; Raoul Walsh finished it uncredited, which explains the lean, hard drive of the back half. A cold procedural for fans of early noir with the romance stripped out.
