Synopsis
The Vast of Night (2019) is a sci-fi mystery you can watch online on iFILM. Andrew Patterson's debut drops you into a tiny New Mexico town in the late 1950s, across a single evening when nearly everyone has crowded into the gym for a high school basketball game.
While the bleachers roar, switchboard operator Fay (Sierra McCormick) picks up a strange hum on the phone lines, a sound she can't place on any frequency. She calls radio DJ Everett (Jake Horowitz), who puts the recording out live — and the callers start coming in, people who heard the same thing years ago and learned to keep quiet. Two tech-obsessed teens spend the night chasing the signal as the empty streets around them grow quieter and stranger.
The film was made on a shoestring, yet it moves with real craft: long gliding camera runs, whole scenes held in a single take, dialogue clipping along at a breathless pace. Patterson frames the whole thing as an episode of a made-up anthology show in the Twilight Zone mold. This isn't an effects spectacle but slow, talky, atmospheric suspense for viewers who prize mood and ideas over fireworks. Stream The Vast of Night (2019) online on iFILM.
