Synopsis
The Jack Bull (1999) is a Western directed by John Badham that you can watch online on iFILM. John Cusack stars as a Wyoming horse trader pushed past his breaking point.
It's the late 1800s out on the western frontier, where the powerful set the rules. Wealthy landowner Ballard humiliates traveling trader Myrl Redding and deliberately cripples two of his horses, simply because nothing stops him. Redding takes it to court, but the law sides with money. So he sets out to collect his own justice, and a petty quarrel swells into a bloody feud that drags in the whole territory. John Goodman, Miranda Otto and John C. McGinley appear alongside Cusack.
Dick Cusack — the star's own father — wrote the script, loosely transplanting Heinrich von Kleist's novella "Michael Kohlhaas" onto American soil. The result is a slow, somber Western about how a hunger to be proven right can hollow a man out completely. Worth it if you like hard frontier tales about principles that cost far too much.
