Synopsis
Scrooge (1970) is a musical retelling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol you can watch online on iFILM. Albert Finney sings and snarls his way through literature's most famous miser.
It's Christmas Eve in Victorian London, and moneylender Ebenezer Scrooge hates every part of the season — the carols, the charity, the cheer. Then his dead partner Jacob Marley (Alec Guinness) turns up wrapped in the chains he forged in life, warning of three spirits to come. Past, Present and Yet to Come each drag the old man toward a reckoning he has spent decades dodging.
Leslie Bricusse wrote the songs, among them the Oscar-nominated "Thank You Very Much," and director Ronald Neame leans into spectacle without losing Dickens' bite. Finney, barely in his thirties at the time, ages convincingly into a stooped eighty-year-old grouch. It's a warm pick for a family Christmas night. Stream Scrooge (1970) online on iFILM.
