Synopsis
Lucky Numbers (2000) is a dark comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Nora Ephron and starring John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow. A 105-minute American-French co-production set in the world of small-market TV news and state lotteries.
Russ Richards is a local weatherman who made a terrible bet: he borrowed a stack of money to launch a snowmobile business, and the winter turned out unseasonably warm. A strip club owner with a dubious insurance scheme digs him deeper in. The escape plan: seduce the lottery ball girl Crystal (Kudrow) into rigging the draw. The numbers come up right. Nothing else does.
Tim Roth, Ed O'Neill, Bill Pullman and Richard Schiff round out a cast that treats the material with the right level of amoral relish. Ephron is best known for romantic comedies, which makes this cynical crime caper something of a curveball — sharper-edged than her usual work and nastier about human greed.
