Deathtrap

Sidney Bruhl is a Broadway playwright whose recent work has failed at every turn. When a manuscript arrives from Clifford Anderson, a student with no reputation and obvious talent, Bruhl makes a calculation: invite Clifford to his Connecticut home, kill him and put the play out under his own name. His wife knows. The plan is airtight. Then reality intervenes in ways that are genuinely difficult to anticipate.

Lumet keeps the film almost entirely in one location, letting the script do the work — and Levin's structure keeps reversing itself in ways that make the thriller and the dark comedy feed each other rather than compete.
