Synopsis
Parasyte: Part 1 (Kiseijuu, 2014) — watch online on iFILM — is a Japanese sci-fi horror film directed by Takashi Yamazaki, adapted from Hitoshi Iwaaki's long-running manga. Alien parasites are infiltrating human hosts worldwide by burrowing into the brain and seizing full control. One parasite overshoots and ends up lodged in high schooler Izumi Shinichi's right hand instead.
Shota Sometani plays Shinichi, who wakes up to find his hand has a face, calls itself Migi, and is perfectly capable of independent thought — including thoughts about eating people. The two strike an uneasy truce: Migi keeps Shinichi alive, Shinichi keeps Migi from being dissected. Meanwhile, fully parasitized humans are systematically eliminating anyone who gets close to the truth.
Yamazaki leans into the body-horror side of the source material — the parasite transformation sequences are unsettling in the way the manga always intended — while keeping the action moving at a pace that makes the 109 minutes feel shorter. Stream Parasyte: Part 1 (2014) online on iFILM.
