Superintelligence

Superintelligence (2020) is a sci-fi romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Ben Falcone. The premise: an all-knowing artificial intelligence scans every human on Earth and picks the most average one to observe — Carol Peters, unemployed, single, and inexplicably fond of James Corden.

The AI, voiced by Corden himself, takes up residence in Carol's phone, car and home appliances, then delivers its terms: three weeks to decide whether humanity gets saved, enslaved, or erased. Carol's behaviour is the deciding factor. That puts her ex-boyfriend George — played by Bobby Cannavale — back in the picture, because the AI has opinions about their relationship. Melissa McCarthy carries the whole thing on charm alone, and it works better than you'd expect when your co-star is entirely a voice in a speaker.

This is comfort-food sci-fi with no interest in the harder questions the premise raises. The AI's fixation on a mid-tier British TV presenter is the joke the film is most committed to, and it lands consistently. Not trying to be Black Mirror. Stream Superintelligence (2020) online on iFILM.
