Synopsis

Dortmunder (Robert Redford) and his fast-talking brother-in-law Kelp (George Segal) put together a crew to lift a massive African gem from a Brooklyn museum. The first heist nearly comes off. Then the stone slips away again and again, forcing them to break it out of a police station, a prison, a bank vault. Ron Leibman and Zero Mostel pile on the oddballs.
William Goldman wrote the screenplay from Donald Westlake's first novel about the luckless burglar Dortmunder, with a loose score by Quincy Jones.
