Synopsis
Orchestra Rehearsal (Prova d'orchestra, 1979) is a late Federico Fellini film you can watch online on iFILM. A TV crew films musicians gathering in an old chapel for a routine rehearsal that curdles into open revolt.
It starts as drudgery — tuning, grumbling, each player bragging to the camera about the soul of the violin or the trombone. Then a German conductor takes the podium, drills the players hard, and the room snaps. Music stands fly, slogans hit the walls, a giant metronome looms over the wreckage. A cramped staff-room squabble swells into a pocket-sized revolution, full of its temptations and dead ends.
Fellini meant it as a sour fable about Italy at the end of the 1970s: chaos, authority, and a longing for order that turns dangerous itself. Nino Rota wrote the score, one of his last for the director. Barely 72 minutes, yet dense enough that critics still mine it for political metaphor. For viewers who'll trade plot for allegory. Stream Orchestra Rehearsal online on iFILM.
