Synopsis
Hanover Street (1979) is Peter Hyams' wartime romance, and you can watch it online on iFILM. London, 1943 — blackout curtains, air-raid sirens, a city bracing for the next bombing run. American pilot David Halloran bumps into nurse Margaret Sellinger on the street, and a feeling neither of them can afford takes hold.
There's a catch: Margaret is married. Her husband Paul works for British intelligence, the kind of job she's not allowed to ask about. David flies bombers over occupied Europe and has stopped counting on tomorrow. Their affair lives in stolen afternoons between missions — until David is dropped behind enemy lines on a covert run, paired with the one man whose place he's been quietly taking back home.
Harrison Ford made this between Star Wars chapters, and the cocky-but-cornered hero suits him; Christopher Plummer plays the betrayed husband with enough weight to turn a stock love triangle into something about duty and guilt, with Lesley-Anne Down completing the three. It's old-fashioned in the best way — real aircraft, no digital trickery, a John Barry score doing the heavy lifting. One for viewers who like their war stories laced with regret. Stream Hanover Street online on iFILM.
