Synopsis
The World of Kanako (渇き。, 2014) is a Japanese crime thriller directed by Tetsuya Nakashima — watch it online on iFILM. A disgraced ex-detective goes looking for his missing daughter and keeps finding people who are afraid to tell him what they know.
Fujishima, played by Koji Yakusho, is not a sympathetic investigator. He's violent, estranged from the family he wrecked, and he shows up at doors uninvited. His daughter Kanako was, by all accounts, brilliant and well-liked. As each interview peels back another layer — classmates, a priest, a former associate — what he's been imagining gives way to something far uglier. Nana Komatsu and Satoshi Tsumabuki anchor the supporting cast in a story that moves through fractured timelines and unreliable witnesses.
Nakashima made this after Confessions, and the visual intensity carries over — relentless cutting, saturated frames, a score that refuses to settle. It's the kind of film that doesn't offer a clean reckoning, just the wreckage. Stream The World of Kanako online on iFILM.
