Synopsis
Vita & Virginia (2019) is a British biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Chanya Button builds the film around the actual correspondence between socialite Vita Sackville-West and novelist Virginia Woolf, played by Gemma Arterton and Elizabeth Debicki.
1920s London, two circles that rarely overlap. Vita moves through parties and drawing rooms on sheer force of personality; Virginia retreats into language and nervous solitude. Their affair, pieced together from hundreds of real letters, eventually gave Woolf the inspiration for Orlando — a novel she dedicated to Vita. Isabella Rossellini appears as Vita's formidable mother, and her scenes carry a chill that sharpens the whole story.
Button makes the letters almost physical — they're read aloud, they interrupt scenes — which lifts this above the usual period-costume romance. Good choice for anyone who wants a literary drama where the real history is the best part. Stream Vita & Virginia (2019) online on iFILM.
