Synopsis
Buchanan Rides Alone (1958) — watch online on iFILM. Director Budd Boetticher made this alongside five other westerns starring Randolph Scott in the late 1950s — a cycle critics now regard as a benchmark of the genre's economy and moral directness.
Buchanan just wants to pass through a border town and get home. Then he watches a Mexican kill the son of the family that runs the town: the law, the money, the politics, all of it. Extricating himself becomes the entire movie. Scott is at ease here, as always — few words, measured calm, the steady implication that he has survived considerably worse. Craig Stevens and L.Q. Jones fill out a cast of opportunists and enforcers the town has collected around its power. Stream Buchanan Rides Alone (1958) online on iFILM.
