Synopsis
Adult Beginners (2014) is an American comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Ross Katz. Jake is a Manhattan tech entrepreneur who implodes spectacularly on the eve of his company's launch. No money, no investors, no plan — just a one-way ticket to his sister's house in the suburbs.
His sister Justine, played by Rose Byrne, is pregnant with her second child and navigating a marriage to Matt, played by Bobby Cannavale, that has its own pressure points. Jake ends up as the live-in nanny for his three-year-old nephew. Nick Kroll plays him as someone practised at projecting confidence, but increasingly unable to fake it around people who actually know him. The siblings have years of unaddressed distance between them, and the film is mostly about whether forced proximity reopens or closes that gap.
Ross Katz keeps the tone grounded — this is less joke delivery, more character observation. The three leads work well off each other, and the film earns its quieter moments. An honest, unhurried look at what it feels like when the life you built turns out not to be yours. Stream Adult Beginners (2014) online on iFILM.
