Synopsis
Batman: Soul of the Dragon (2021) is a DC animated feature directed by Sam Liu — watch it online on iFILM. David Giuntoli voices Bruce Wayne in a story styled after 1970s grindhouse martial arts cinema: sharp suits, neon shadows, and a threat that traces back to a shared past at a secret school of combat.
When a deadly enemy from that school resurfaces, Batman teams up with three fellow alumni — Richard Dragon (Mark Dacascos), Ben Turner (Michael Jai White), and Lady Shiva (Kelly Hu). None of them parted on simple terms, and the reunion is tense before the fighting even starts.
What separates this from most DC animated releases is that Batman shares the screen as an equal rather than anchoring every scene. The ensemble carries real weight, the 70s aesthetic is committed and specific, and the action choreography is brutal enough to earn its edge. Worth it for Michael Jai White and Kelly Hu alone.
