Synopsis

Leona Stevenson is bedridden, phone in hand, cut off from everything. When she accidentally picks up a crossed line, she overhears two men planning a murder — set for that same night. Adapted from Lucille Fletcher's 1943 radio play, which pulled in millions of listeners on its first broadcast. Stanwyck's Oscar-nominated performance here is almost entirely confined to one room — she carries the whole film on tone of voice and rising panic alone.
