The show is adapted from a novel by former SAS trooper Chris Ryan — and that pedigree shows in how the action sequences are staged, grounded and frantic rather than glossy. When Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton take over as the central duo, the format shifts to a fast-moving mission-per-episode structure spanning Africa, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.
