Synopsis

Simon is a violinist whose own career has long since stalled. Short on money, he takes a job running a music program at a rough school on the edge of Paris, where the kids have never held an instrument and order is in short supply. Then he notices Arnold — quiet, watchful, with an ear worth nurturing. Bit by bit the lessons start to change the class, and Simon along with it.
Merad, best known abroad for the comedy Welcome to the Sticks, plays it almost straight here: a tired man feeling his way back toward purpose. Shot in the plain, unsentimental manner of French social cinema, it still believes a violin can pull a child out of a hard place. A calm, warm pick for an unhurried evening.
