Synopsis
Alice and the Mayor (Alice et le Maire, 2019) is a French political drama by Nicolas Pariser — watch it online on iFILM. Fabrice Luchini plays Paul Théraneau, the long-serving mayor of Lyon who discovers mid-career that he has completely run out of ideas and cannot quite say when that happened.
His advisors bring in Alice Heimann, a young Parisian philosopher with no political experience and no particular filter. Anaïs Demoustier plays her with a cool directness that disarms everyone in the room. What follows is a sustained dialogue between two people who have almost nothing in common: a man shaped entirely by practical power, and a woman who has spent years thinking about its foundations. Each conversation shifts the other slightly.
