Synopsis
Belphegor, Phantom of the Louvre (2001) is a French horror-fantasy directed by Jean-Paul Salomé that you can watch online on iFILM. An Egyptian sarcophagus arrives at the museum, gets scanned with a laser, and releases something ancient into the building's electrical grid. By morning the cameras are dead and the artifacts are moving on their own.
The spirit needs a body and finds one: Lisa, a young woman who lives near the museum, played by Sophie Marceau. A retired paranormal investigator, played by Michel Serrault, traces the disturbances back to a demon named Belphegor — a figure with roots in medieval Jewish mythology — and tries to drive it out before it finishes what it started. The film was shot inside the actual Louvre, giving it access to storage vaults, conservation labs and night-time corridors that most productions would never see.
Based on a popular French newspaper serial from 1927, and adapted again here with Marceau as the unlikely vessel for an ancient evil. Stream Belphegor, Phantom of the Louvre online on iFILM.
