Synopsis
Henry Poole Is Here (2008) — watch online on iFILM — is a quiet drama directed by Mark Pellington, with Luke Wilson playing a man who just received a terminal diagnosis and wants to disappear. He quits his job, leaves his fiancée, buys a house in the suburban neighborhood where he grew up, and plans to spend whatever time he has left completely alone.
His neighbors have other ideas. The woman next door spots a water stain on the side of his house, decides it's a divine image, and word spreads fast. Soon strangers are showing up at his fence looking for miracles. Henry is furious about all of it. Gradually, almost against his will, he starts to notice the people who keep appearing — a single mother and her withdrawn young daughter (Radha Mitchell and Morgan Lily), a neighbor played by George Lopez who doesn't know what to say but keeps trying anyway.
The film doesn't argue for or against miracles. It's more interested in what happens to a person who has made a deliberate choice to feel nothing when that choice keeps getting interrupted. Luke Wilson carries it almost entirely on restraint. Understated and genuinely affecting for those in the right mood for it. Stream Henry Poole Is Here online on iFILM.
