Synopsis
Les Survivants (White Paradise, 2023) is a French mountain thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Grieving widower Samuel retreats to a half-finished chalet in the Italian Alps to be alone with his loss, until he finds Chehreh, a woman who has fled Afghanistan, half-frozen in the snow outside his door.
He decides to walk her to the French border, certain it will take only a few hours. The locals see it differently — they ride with the police, hunt migrants across the slopes, and have no mercy for anyone who shelters a stranger. Soon a pack of violent men is tracking the pair through the white wilderness, and a short trek hardens into a fight to stay alive. Denis Ménochet and Zar Amir Ebrahimi carry the tension between them with barely a line of dialogue.
Director Guillaume Renusson shapes a lean, claustrophobic chase where the pristine alpine landscape turns into a trap, and the choice to help or look away becomes a matter of life and death. Strong stuff for fans of nervy European social cinema. Stream Les Survivants (2023) online on iFILM.
