Synopsis
Evil Angels (1988) is an Australian-American courtroom drama directed by Fred Schepisi — watch it online on iFILM. At a campsite near Uluru in 1980, Lindy Chamberlain (Meryl Streep) insists a dingo took her baby daughter Azaria from their tent in the night. No body is ever recovered. No one believes her — or rather, too many people choose not to.
What follows is not a crime film but a study in how a media trial gets built. Two inquests, then a murder charge. Lindy is Seventh-day Adventist, she doesn't cry on cue, she keeps her composure when the cameras are rolling, and Australia decides that composure is proof of guilt. Her husband Michael (Sam Neill), a pastor, struggles to hold himself together while the machinery of public judgment grinds them both down.
Meryl Streep received an Oscar nomination for the role — she plays Lindy not as a wronged saint but as a woman whose stubborn refusal to perform grief made her an easy target. The Chamberlain case led to Australia's first wrongful conviction review and reshaped the country's understanding of forensic evidence. Stream Evil Angels (1988) online on iFILM.
