Synopsis
Titanic (1943) is a German historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. The famous liner steams toward the iceberg, but a second disaster is already unfolding in the boardroom: White Star Line boss Sir Bruce Ismay pushes the captain to keep the engines wide open, hoping a record crossing will rescue his collapsing share price.
As ice warnings reach the bridge, Captain Edward Smith has to choose between caution and his employer's greed. The film hangs its conscience on Petersen, an invented German first officer who pleads with his vain British superiors to slow down. Sybille Schmitz and Hans Nielsen carry the passenger storyline, their fates sealed before the night is out.
Commissioned by Joseph Goebbels' propaganda ministry, the picture is built to paint the British as reckless and the lone German as the only honest man aboard. Director Herbert Selpin was arrested by the Gestapo mid-shoot; Werner Klingler finished the job. A grim curiosity of wartime cinema — and its sinking footage was later recycled into other Titanic movies. Stream Titanic (1943) online on iFILM.
