Synopsis
Wartime Washington, 1943: every hotel is full and a spare room is a fantasy. That housing crunch sets up The More the Merrier (1943), a classic Hollywood comedy from George Stevens you can watch online on iFILM. To do her bit for the war effort, Connie Milligan sublets half her apartment.
She expects a tidy female tenant. She gets Benjamin Dingle, a twinkly old schemer who talks his way in — and then, without asking, sublets half of his half to young Joe Carter. Three strangers, one tiny kitchen, one bathroom schedule, and an old matchmaker nudging the girl and the boy together at every turn. The cramped daily chaos slowly thaws into romance. Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea and Charles Coburn play the trio with flawless timing.
Coburn took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar as Dingle, and he's the engine of the whole thing. A perfect pick for an evening of vintage screwball charm. Stream The More the Merrier (1943) online on iFILM.
