Mrs. Winterbourne

Mrs. Winterbourne (1996) is an American romantic comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Ricki Lake plays Connie, eighteen, pregnant, and kicked out by her boyfriend, who boards a train to Boston and shares a compartment with wealthy newlyweds Hugh and Patricia Winterbourne. The train derails. Connie wakes up in hospital wearing Patricia's ring — and the staff assumes she is Patricia. Director Richard Benjamin adapts the premise with a warm, unhurried touch.

The Winterbourne family takes Connie in without question. Shirley MacLaine as the matriarch gives the film more warmth than the setup deserves, and Brendan Fraser as the brother-in-law turns what could have been a plot device into a proper romance. The comedy comes from Connie's mounting panic over a lie she can't figure out how to undo. A light, feel-good watch with a slightly sharper edge than it looks.
