Synopsis

His dresser, Maria, secretly rehearses the same parts after dark, longing for a stage of her own. When King Charles II lifts the ban on actresses, the order of things flips: Maria becomes a star and Ned is suddenly obsolete. To survive, the fallen idol must relearn how to be a man while she learns how to truly act — and only the other can teach it. Billy Crudup and Claire Danes play this swap of roles and desires with real delicacy.
