Nobody's Fool

Nobody's Fool (2018) is a comedy written and directed by Tyler Perry — watch it online on iFILM. Tanya walks out of prison after five years and moves in with her sister Danica, who has built herself a tidy life: steady career, nice apartment, and a long-distance online boyfriend she has never actually met in person.

Tanya clocks the situation in about ten minutes. While Danica defends her mystery man with absolute conviction, Tanya starts digging — with the kind of blunt instincts that come from spending years around people who lie for a living. Tiffany Haddish plays Tanya at full volume and it works, because Tika Sumpter holds her own as the over-controlled sister who has something to prove. Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock and Omari Hardwick round out a cast that never takes the material too seriously.

At its core the film is about two women who grew up in the same house and learned completely different lessons from it. Perry keeps things moving at an easy pace, and the catfish subplot pays off with more warmth than you might expect from the premise. Stream Nobody's Fool online on iFILM.
